PROFILE OF INDONESIAN
PROFESIONAL WORKER

Introduction
Information technology plays a very important role for a nation and become one of the essential supporting factors in building a knowledgeable society that has capability to deal with competitive global era. There for, the government of Indonesia Establish numerous education institution carrying out education, research, development and training on information technology, a way to produce human resources to be able to coupe with challenges is business and industrial of affair. The objectives included :

• to generate human resource with positive attitude and able to independently develop the skill and knowledge obtained from the school and applied it within the society
• to generate human resource with good analytic and synthesis problem solving
• ability to design, monitor and analyze a general concept
• ability to pursue to a higher education degree
• ability in solving problem and develop the knowledge and skill obtained from school, and is able to work as researcher, designer and executor of an information technology system


COMPETENCY
The national competency for information technology is set up by considering various level of the present degree, namely : Bachelor degree, Master degree and Doctoral degree

• Bachelor degree

Based on the need of computer used in many institution, including the intranet, internet and computer programming/soft ware in a small and broad range/scale, the graduates are educated to have ability in :

• using the computer as a tool for data and information analyzing
• mastering the technique and method of handling computer trouble shooting
• developing software either by using software development tools or programming language
• Master degree

Based on the need in developing the information science, both as pure and applied science, as a contribution for science word and practical needs, the graduates are educated to have ability in :

• an advanced theoretical information mastery
• ability to develop the information science by doing research
• Doctoral degree

Based on the need in developing the information science especially those done independently, the graduates are educated to be able to conduct the research under their own management

CORE CURICULUM
The curriculum is set up based on IEEE/ACM curriculum, which lists the core topics and number of optional topics that should be mastered by the graduates. The curriculum is competence-based which stresses on the knowledge development, understanding, ability, attitude and interest of the students, which drive them to do things skillfully, precisely, successfuly, and full of responsibility. In order to be able to produce competency graduates, the curriculum is set up by considering three main expertise, namely:

• Software engineering. To have ability and discipline in processing and developing software / programmes
• Intelligent Business system. To have ability in using IT as a support tool for intelligent business system at business field
• Net Centric Computing. To have ability in problem analyzing and engineering for setting up a net-based touble shooting

 

Competence-Based Training in Indonesia
At the mean time, there has not yet a further competences-based training for the Bachelor, Master and Doctor degree in information Technology. Their competence is completely gained from the universities and certified accordingly. However there are quite many competence-based training on computer practical application which conducted under the accreditation of Ministry of National Education

Working Prospect
Graduates whose major are in information Technology, would have potential career in :

• Enterprise Information System, as
• Enterprise system analysis, to bridge the management level with computer operation section. This include Business System Analyst (as problem solver at commercial enterprise), Data based Analyst (data manager within the company), data Based administrator (responsible to operate and monitor the public and private data)
• Computer Network and Web Programming
• Network analyst, as the designer of intranet system which will provide the user access to various kinds of information and expertise, taking responsibility to organize the element of the net, decide the hardware needed, assess and supervise the performance of the present net.
• Web programmer, takes responsibility as program designer for web-based application� �
• Computer Graphic and Multimedia
• Multimedia designer and/or Multimedia implementer, as designer and implementer of multimedia. Most of them would work at marketing field
• Multimedia application tool designer
• Intelligent System Model

Working as Consultant for Enterprise that needs to improve its system. The system modeler would help the enterprise to design the model in order to improve the performance of the enterprise.

General Career
Apart from the personal interest in choosing the career, the graduated of Information Technology can work as :

• programmer, work as various application designer
• EDP programmer, responsible to purchase, install and control the administration of a data processing center
• Training specialist (Instructor), as teacher an teaching the program language, operation system, communication technology etc
• Project leader (Project Director or Manager), responsible to manage the whole project of application design, including scheduling and organizing the choices

Training at Work Place
Basically, training at workplace is aimed at smoothing the relationship between the Universities and industry, which will be as preliminary introduction between the student (prospective workers) and development world (prospective employer) as state-owned enterprise, Region-owned enterprise private company etc.

Employment in Industrial Interprise
The Information Technology Graduates can be employed for various kinds of professions. Many kinds of industries are waiting the graduates to be posted as production manager, production engineer, manufacturing inspector, manufacturing development engineering or industrial engineering.

The Number of Graduates
Various private and state universities are very capable in producing the qualified Human Resource in Information Technology, among others: Bandung Technology Institute, Guna Dharma University, Bina Nusantara University and North Sumatera Islamic University. They have classes for Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degree. Number of graduates produced per year is predicted as well:
